BP's "Rules" Prevent Journalists From Touring Gulf Coast Damage
By Nicole Belle
h/t Bob Cesca

This is yet another in a long series of stunningly arrogant moves by BP:

When CBS tried to film a beach with heavy oil on the shore in South Pass, Louisiana, a boat of BP contractors, and two Coast Guard officers, told them to turn around, or be arrested.

"This is BP's rules, it's not ours," someone aboard the boat said. Coast Guard officials told CBS that they're looking into it.

As the Coast Guard is a branch of the Armed Forces, it brings into question how closely the government and BP are working together to keep details of the disaster in the dark.

Hold the phone...BP is making the rules???? Kind of hard to argue that we aren't a full-blown corporatocracy, when BP--that's British Petroleum--is leading the United States Coast Guard on this--and this is okay with a branch of our armed forces.

And note how far journalism has fallen that anchor Katie Couric doesn't even blink at that information. Later, CBS reported online that Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) demanded that BP provide live footage of the oil spill:

Earlier Wednesday, Markey demanded the broadcast so independent scientists could more accurately calculate the flow rate. He questioned why such data wasn't readily being made public.

"BP thinks it's their ocean," Markey said while chairing a House Energy and Environment Subcommittee hearing Wednesday.

Markey didn't stop with BP, reports CBS News Correspondent Sharyl Attkisson. He blasted the Coast Guard for what he described as letting BP call the shots.

Coast Guard officials were on a boat with BP contractors who stopped CBS News cameras from viewing an oily beach, and the Coast Guard - which is in charge of the investigation - admits it's had access to live video since Day One but wouldn't let Congress or the public see it, Attkisson reports.

Markey said there was "no excuse for withholding live video for 23 days."

There's no excuse for much of BP's actions, frankly, Congressman Markey. And it will be a test of the strength of our federal government to actually hold them accountable.

DAMN them! Oil disaster, please read story!

Man-made disasters (oil "spill") and natural disasters (volcano, earthquakes);
I'm thinking that the man-made variety is by far the worst and will have much longer lasting devastating affects/effects on our environment and mankind in general, around the globe. Damn those greedy, murdering bastards (corporate AND govt.) to HELL!

Couple Arrested At U.S. Border For Asking Questions

In another perfect illustration of why the U.S. tourist industry is in free fall, audio has emerged of a Canadian couple who were interrogated and arrested by immigration officials after they dared to inquire as to why they were being asked such pointless and invasive questions.

Attempting to enter the U.S. at the Niagara Falls border, the couple were asked where they were going, to which they responded the Niagara Falls shopping mall. When the immigration official bizarrely demanded to know what shops they were planning to visit, the situation quickly worsened.

After daring to ask why they were being bombarded with such ridiculous questions, they were told to exit their car and are taken inside for further interrogation by another official. When the Canadian man rhetorically asks, “what are you gonna do, shoot me” the officials claim he is threatening them before he is arrested.
Officials claim the man “assaulted” them because he backed away for a moment when being arrested. The officials claim that their victims are required to submit to whatever order they give no matter how ridiculous.

To underscore the ludicrous justifications officials use for harassing people, the officer claims he personally stops three terrorists a day entering the United States from Canada. One wonders whether he characterizes a “terrorist” as someone who doesn’t instantly obey his every inane command
Despite his pleas, the man and his wife are thrown in jail, at which point the audio ends.

Let us not forget that the United States does not stand alone in employing semi-retarded jackbooted goons who specialize in harassing innocent people to enforce security at its borders.

Before arriving in Ottawa to cover the 2006 Bilderberg conference, Alex Jones and his team were detained for 15 hours and put through a nightmare of interrogation, accusations and threats of arrest by Canadian immigration officials. Customs openly told Jones as soon as they brought him into custody that the Bilderberg Group was aware of his arrival and that this was the reason for his detainment. All three members of the team were instantly detained despite going through different immigration desks.

Watch the video below which contains the covertly recorded audio of the Canadian couple being harassed and arrested.

Dad in hospital, gathering at Mom's house, Theresa's arrival...

Hi everbody, this is just sort of an update, things have been kind of crazy. My sister Theresa's trip here from Ireland (where she lives) was delayed by the volcano, Mom's surgery went well, then Dad suffered an unexpected disaster. I'll throw some pics up in a few blogs to sort of "catch up", then I'll try to get busy posting more photos from our first RV trip to and from Texas. Still poking my head in your "doors" whenever I can to read your blogs, but, I'll try to get back to commenting soon. Thanks for your patience.

Lorraine (Dad's wonderful girlfriend who also has cancer)
feeding Dad 2 days before his thigh surgery:

From my Facebook updates (newsfeed):
April 24 at 8:00am
Hanging out with all my siblings tonight :-)

April 24 at 9:09am
Just found out Dad rushed to the hospital. Update later...

Sun at 8:51am
It doesn't look good. Spiral fracture of Dad's right femur, while he was simply sitting on his bed after taking his shoes off...he heard *POP*POP*POP*!, then EXTREME PAIN. His bones are about as strong as a cigarette ash. Doing "embollism" today to keep him from bleeding to death, then surgery tomorrow. We're hoping he... doesn't have to lose his leg (at top of thigh). I HATE CANCER!!!

Mon at 11:19am
Worried about Dad, waiting for word. He is still in the 1st of 2 complicated surgeries. Hoping he won't have to lose his leg (or worse). It started at 8 am and he is still in the 1st surgery. Dad, Mom's sugery, & niece Elizabeth all in a week and a half. Sheesh!

Mon at 12:47pm
Dad now in 2nd surgery, they took him in right after embolisation procedure. Expected to finish sometime after 4pm. Using computer here in waiting room, no signal for cell phones. (UPDATE sent by Theresa.)

Tuesday at 8:17am
WHEW! Dad's surgery went well, they put his leg back together with a rod, pins, etc. (Thank God they didn't have to "take" it.) He will be on heavy pain killers for a couple of days, so we'll see how things go.

Marvels of modern medicine! Dad has already been up sitting in a chair, he's eating and is in good spirits. He doesn't like the Morphine, so switched to Norco. Looks like he may have developed pneumonia though. They're running tests, then maybe antibiotics. Mom is doing much better too, was out shopping with Theresa today already! :-)

Sunday, May 2, 2010
Dad has been moved to what is supposed to be a physical therapy-rehab center for a few weeks, but it seems more like a convalescent home (old folks home) than a rehab center (MEDICARE SUCKS!), and he developed pneumonia (while in the hospital), so we're worried and praying that he can overcome it, and get on with his physical therapy. He can't walk yet, his house is full of stairs, and his bathroom is upstairs (across from bedroom), so he HAS to learn to at least walk with a "walker" first, or else he'll be "stuck" in his bedroom. He really wants to go home NOW.

Theresa had to go back to Ireland on Friday :-( , but she'll try to come back again in October.

More updates to come...
