A quick note from Marlinton, West Virginia....

Hi everybody,

Just a quick note from West Virginia. We're visiting family and friends in Pocahontas County.

Went to the "Road Kill" Festival today in Marlinton and tasted some "road kill" (yummy!), listened to some great music and now we're back at William's closest childhood friend's house up here with glorious mountain views all around us (I LOVE it here!), ...waiting for the traditional Road Kill festival time "Trash Can dinner" being cooked by Denise, Ron and Sherry Wilfong's daughter. Sounds interesting, to say the least, heh?

I'm taking kazillions of photos and I'll post some after we get settled in back at home in Michigan. We'll be heading towards Cincinnati (Batavia), Ohio tomorrow and we're scheduled for our "walk-through" Monday in our new fifth-wheel (2011 Keystone Fuzion 360). We're both SO excited!

The past few weeks, I haven't written much because I didn't even know where to start. We've been dealing with some "glitches" on a few things, so I'll catch up on all of that soon, too.

I'd post a few photos, but I'm on our friend's computer (didn't bring mine and we have no cell phone reception here, anyway)......and there's a nice cold cocktail calling my name...and I sure am ready for it after walking all day. So, I'll catch up with y'all soon.

SHOPPING: Sams Club or Costco?

OK, I've been thinking about this for some time, but Rick
gave me a nudge with his poll about which web browser people use most (it was Firefox, but I use IE, for now) ...... (thanks Rick), so, I thought I'd try a poll too.

William and I have a Sam's Club membership. Anyway, I've heard people say that they like Costco better and I've heard people say that they have memberships at both (that would cost about $80.00 per year for both)...is it worth it? Or is one better than the other for various reasons, in your opinion?

Please tell me why, if you feel like it...and please at least cast your (anonymous) vote in my poll. (Upper right corner of this page...see it? Yep, that's it!) It will be up for the next few days, then I'll let you all know the final outcome. Thank you! :-)

Nuevo Progreso, Mexico

This past winter was the first time either one of us had ever been to Texas. Shortly after we arrived, friends suggested that we might also enjoy visiting Mexico. We decided to go on a charter bus, and purchased our tickets at the candy store in Port Aransas about a week ahead of time ($35.00 each round-trip).

January 20, 2010 we hopped on the bus at the IGA parking lot in Port Aransas at some ungodly pre-dawn hour for the long bus ride. I think it took about 4 hours or more. When we arrived in Nuevo Progreso we had about 3 1/2 hours to shop and have lunch.

Here are some photos of that day. There are many more, including photos of the fruit market/garden pottery roadside stand the bus stopped at in Texas on the way back home, if you want to click on my Picasa link at the bottom of this post to see them...best viewed as a full-screen slide-show.

I don't know about you, but, as much as I enjoyed myself that day, some of the photos make me feel sad. They remind me that in this day and age, we should, as fellow human beings, all be getting along with one another much, much better than we are.

I'm considering printing a few of the photos to frame. I would really appreciate it if you would tell me which ones you like best. I'm curious to find out if they are the same ones that I like best. Thank you.

MORE Arts,Beats & Eats - Sunday, September 5, 2010

Here are some more photos from Sunday. Believe it or not, I actually didn't take very many photos (for me). It was just too crowded, and the stuff that I really wanted to see...the ART....I never saw. Oh well, that's ok. Another time, right?

Enjoyed some live music at Arts, Beats & Eats (Sunday September 5, 2010)

Arts Beats and Eats

This is one of the rare times that I venture into a huge crowd, the kind of a crowd where you feel like a sardine and you hope that everyone remembered to shower before they came...thank goodness for the much cooler weather!

William dropped me off just a couple of blocks from where I wanted to be...what a sweetheart! He really did not want to go...at all...he hates maneuvering crowds that tight...and he knows that I really don't mind doing things like this by myself.

Besides, you couldn't park anywhere within a one mile radius and there was no way we were going to leave our new truck parked a few miles away at a high school or at the race track, so we could take the shuttle. Heck no!

So, off I went to look at artwork (which I never did find, because some streets were quite literally SO packed with people that you couldn't get through them) and to take photos, ...and off he went to relax and watch sports on tv...then I called him later to pick me up. Cool!
(We only live a few miles away, anyway.)

And, where else can you see big name bands for only a one-time $3.00 admission fee these days? I have to admit that I really enjoyed it for a little while. I've seen WAR in concert before and I always enjoy them. You just can't help but smile and groove to the tunes! I did! ;-)

WAR was followed by Macy Gray, but I didn't stay for that. Went wandering instead and I could hear from a distance. It was nice to see all the smiling faces for a change, in the midst of this dire Michigan economy.

This is how far back I was. I'm surprised that any of the photos turned out at all. It was literally shoulder to shoulder standing only, so I was holding my camera up over the heads of the people in front of me (I'm only 5'2") LOL. I really like my little digital Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5.

The whole audience was singing "Cisco Kid"!
