Nuevo Progreso, Mexico

This past winter was the first time either one of us had ever been to Texas. Shortly after we arrived, friends suggested that we might also enjoy visiting Mexico. We decided to go on a charter bus, and purchased our tickets at the candy store in Port Aransas about a week ahead of time ($35.00 each round-trip).

January 20, 2010 we hopped on the bus at the IGA parking lot in Port Aransas at some ungodly pre-dawn hour for the long bus ride. I think it took about 4 hours or more. When we arrived in Nuevo Progreso we had about 3 1/2 hours to shop and have lunch.

Here are some photos of that day. There are many more, including photos of the fruit market/garden pottery roadside stand the bus stopped at in Texas on the way back home, if you want to click on my Picasa link at the bottom of this post to see them...best viewed as a full-screen slide-show.

I don't know about you, but, as much as I enjoyed myself that day, some of the photos make me feel sad. They remind me that in this day and age, we should, as fellow human beings, all be getting along with one another much, much better than we are.

I'm considering printing a few of the photos to frame. I would really appreciate it if you would tell me which ones you like best. I'm curious to find out if they are the same ones that I like best. Thank you.

- Mary Ann :-)

  1. I am barley on speaking terms with most of my Mid west relatives because they are so hateful in their thinking about people who are not like them.

It's a big world, but so many have small minds.

Did you put anything in any of the cups?

  2. We use to live in Mexico. We lived in Teacapan, just 2hours south of Mazatlan. Most of the Mexicans are very nice people. We lived there for 3 years and got along well with everyone. Great pictures.

  4. Thank you for sharing your experience in Mexico with us! We really enjoyed all of your pictures! But if we had to choose one that we like best it would be:

This photo is absolutely priceless! The colors, dogs and the woman looking out the window just simply flow. Very nice picture. One that should be framed for sure! =)

    Have a wonderful day! =)

  5. I have two favorites. The tall yellow building and the lady in the pink window with the dogs. Great pictures.

  6. You have many great photos here Mary Ann & I love all the vibrant colors. Only in Mexico eh. I too like the one with the two little dogs under the window. That one is a winner for sure. Keep up the good work. I also noticed some of the parallels in a couple other photos. A photographer's eye is needed for that kind of photography. Very clever & well done:))

  7. I liked the one of the lady in the window with the 2 dogs, but I also liked the one with the little kid under the table. Children are the same everywhere.
